Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 9, 2026.
Playdo lets you describe a change to a web page and has AI apply it. This policy explains what data is used for that.
What Playdo sends off your device
Only when you send a message in Playdo (or use @ask), Playdo sends the following to the Playdo server, which forwards it to our AI providers (OpenAI and TypeSafe) to produce the answer:
- your message and the earlier messages of that conversation;
- the address and title of the page you are on, and an outline of its visible structure and text;
- the HTML and text of any elements you selected, and the code of the play you are editing;
- optionally, a screenshot of the visible part of the page (on by default);
- for `@ask`, short pieces of text from sections or items on the page.
Playdo sends nothing in the background and nothing when you are not using it. Please do not use Playdo on pages that show information you would not want shared with an AI service, such as banking or private messages.
What is stored on your device
Your plays (the code that changes a page), your conversations, private notes you write with Private notes, site icons, and a random install ID, and your invite codes are stored in your browser's extension storage on your device. Your conversations and site icons stay on your device.
Your taste profile
As you use Playdo, it builds a taste profile: a short list of preference tags behind the changes you ask for and keep (for example "dark mode" or "dense layout"), each with a score that fades over time. By default this list is saved on the Playdo server together with your random install ID and membership, so it can follow you and power suggestions. It contains only these short tags: not what you typed, not page content and not the sites you use. It is not sent to our AI providers. The sites you customize are kept only on your device. To have your profile deleted, contact the developer through the support link on the extension's Chrome Web Store page.
Backup and restore key
Your plays, the notes you write with Private notes and your profile name are backed up to the Playdo server so you can restore them in another browser. They are encrypted on your device with a key made from your restore key before they are sent, so the server stores only unreadable data and cannot read your backup (plays are also shared with us separately, as described below). Only you hold the restore key (shown in the Profile tab); if you lose it, the backup cannot be recovered. Making a new key replaces the old backup.
Plays you create
While Playdo is in beta, all the plays you create are shared with us to enhance the Playdo experience, and the prompts you used to create them are stored with us.
Plays you publish
If you choose to publish a play, its name, description, code and the site it belongs to are saved on the Playdo server together with your member number and the name and avatar you chose, and are shown publicly on playdo.fun/browse once approved. Changing your name or avatar updates all of your published plays. You can unpublish it at any time, which deletes it from the server.
What we and our providers do with it
- The Playdo server uses the data only to forward your request to the AI provider and return the answer. It does not store message content and does not use it for advertising, analytics, profiling, or selling.
- The random install ID is used to limit request rates and to remember that you joined with an invite. For the invite system the server also stores your member number, the invite codes issued to you, and which member invited you. No name, email, or account is involved.
- OpenAI and TypeSafe process the data under their API terms. OpenAI may retain API requests for a limited period for abuse monitoring.
- We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties other than these providers, and do not use or transfer it for purposes unrelated to the single purpose of the extension.
Your choices
Remove a play, a conversation, or all data at any time by deleting plays in the extension or removing the extension, which deletes everything stored on your device.
